Important warnings
- Not for pneumonia; lung surfactant inactivates it.
- Monitor kidney function and muscle symptoms; check creatine kinase regularly.
- Severe muscle injury, including rhabdomyolysis, can occur.
- Use only for susceptible bacterial infections; resistance may develop.
Pregnancy
Human pregnancy data are limited; use when clearly needed and potential benefit outweighs risk.
Breastfeeding
It is unknown whether daptomycin enters human milk; consider infant exposure and clinical need.
Interactions
- Statins may increase muscle injury risk; consider more frequent creatine kinase monitoring.
- Probenecid can increase daptomycin exposure.
- Anticoagulants may require monitoring because daptomycin can affect some laboratory clotting tests.
